Holiday season is full of various traditions, one connected with New Year celebration is making New Year’s resolutions. They represent goals we set for ourselves to fulfill in the following year. Some people love writing these goals down, however some people prefer vision boards more.
Vision board
For some people having a real visual representation of their goals helps them be more focused on achieving them. Psychologists say that seeing your goal every day helps your mind stay on track while achieving them.
Resolutions

This is more of a written form lacking a constant reminder that the vision board has, however just putting down what you aim to achieve helps staying focused and doing everything necessary to fulfill your aspirations.
Both of these methods are used for personal and professional areas of life, therefore you can focus on your dropshipping business as well.
Reflect
If you don’t know what goals to set for your business in 2021, one way to explore the goals is to reflect on what you did in 2020. Assess what you did well, and what may have been some of your fallouts. You can check what are some common mistakes in dropshipping, to sort them out first. When writing your resolutions don’t use negative forms of sentences like ‘Don’t spend too much money on marketing to everyone’, but rather something like ‘Focus your time and money on your target audience‘. This works also for your ‘wishes’ – ‘Have more website visitors making purchases’ is much better than ‘Have less abandoned carts‘.
Dream big

When writing goals for the upcoming year don’t be modest. Imagine this, you wish to have hundred purchases in your just established dropshipping shop. For that you will work as much as you think is needed. However, because you’ve never done that before, you don’t know what is really necessary for that, you’re just guessing. Therefore you can underestimate the work needed for achieving your goal. On the other hand if you put a thousand sales, you may not reach that but you will work harder because your goal is greater and you know it needs more work than achieving a hundred sales. In the end you will certainly have many more than you would if you set a smaller goal.
Be precise
Take the goal ‘become rich’ as an example. If you say that you wish to become rich in 2021 you haven’t accomplished anything by putting that in your goal list. That goal is very vague and left for further interpretation. Being rich for you and for me is probably not the same thing. Even you don’t know what you mean by rich if you don’t define it closer. A better way to write such a goal is to set a certain amount of money that you want to earn in a certain period of time. That way you have a clear goal in front of you, staying focused on it more clearly. By adding a time period you are including another defining element. Setting a deadline helps staying more focused working towards the goal.
Present tense
Another psychological trick is to write everything in present tense. That way the brain accepts as if the information is already true and happening, motivating you even more. Also, try avoiding words like wish, want, would like, because these are not the states of being or having, but more longing for something, this can make a psychological barrier while working towards a goal.

Now write that New Year’s resolution and make yourself proud. Meanwhile, we wish you a happy and successful 2021!
